Ok, so big question today… Is social media toxic? After the last couple of months, it’s easy to nod seriously and think that it is. Well, today we’re going to talk about how it actually isn’t and how you can find the good in it!

I know it feels like everyone is on edge on social media, but really that’s not the problem. The real problem is that satan will use any and every seed to cause division, and hate. Let’s be offensive and learn that satan is looking for ways to cause anger. The list of personal things going on adds to my plate and puts me on edge. Not the people on social media. As a leader, we can’t just throw in the towel on social media in general. We have to rise up and become part of the solution. And we have to give people grace. We have no idea what is going on in their lives, and it’s not our job to judge what they are and aren’t posting in these times.

Here are a few things you can do to remind yourself that social media ISN’T toxic.

  1. You have the power to shift atmospheres for good. You have the ability to change how your followers feel when they see your content and you can be an agent for unity and love! Take away the judgment. You being a light for social media means that you can’t let constant judgment cloud you.

  2. Evaluate why things trigger you and look for the real reason you’re experiencing a strong emotion. If you’re feeling set off by something take a pause and see where the feeling is coming from in your heart. If you have strong feelings on social media and act in them, it can cause major regret. So pausing will be a major benefit.

  3. Set boundaries and limits. Don’t wash your hands of social media, but DO give yourself strong boundaries and space from it. Don’t sit and scroll first thing in the morning and last thing at night. If you’re already cranky and not feeling like pouring in the good to social media then just don’t get on.

Do what’s lifegiving for YOU! Find the things that really light you up, and focus on them. You’ll find yourself in a much better headspace. Don’t hesitate to take your feelings straight to God. That’s a resource we forget to tap but He is the only one that can help clear our judgment and provide light!

We are going to come back stronger, braver, and be a light to people on social media! Give people grace upon grace and use your voice to be the GOOD in the world!
